Normally Open Sensor Is Not Triggering a Fault in Enbase

Troubleshoot a Normally Open sensor that is not triggering a fault in Enbase by checking sensor operation, input type, and grounding.

The Enbase Expansion I/O Module supports Normally Open, Short to Ground single wire switches as well as Normally Closed two wire switches. If a Normally Open sensor is not triggering a fault, check the sensor operation and grounding first.

How a Normally Open Sensor Works in Enbase

A Normally Open, Short to Ground sensor closes its internal switch to ground the sensor wire when the sensor enters the fault condition. Because the signal depends on the ground path, proper equipment and panel grounding is required for the input to operate correctly.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Confirm that the sensor itself is operating correctly by checking for continuity when the sensor is faulted.
  2. Confirm that the Digital Input selector is configured for the correct sensor type.
  3. Confirm proper grounding between the equipment, panel, battery ground, and earth ground according to the installation requirements.
  4. When checking continuity between grounds, verify that the multimeter reads 2 ohms of resistance or less.

Why Grounding Matters

Normally Open, Short to Ground sensors rely on the equipment ground path to report their state. A poor or missing ground can prevent the Enbase Panel from seeing the fault even when the sensor itself changes state.

When to Contact Enbase Support

Contact Enbase Support if the sensor changes state correctly but Enbase still does not show the fault, or if you are unsure whether the panel grounding or Digital Input configuration is correct.
