Understanding Enbase Compressor Shutdown Types

Learn the difference between ESD, Standard, and None shutdown types in the Enbase Compressor Control Panel and how each affects compressor shutdown behavior.

Each Safety Shutdown Tag in the Enbase Compressor Control Panel can have a Shutdown Type that determines how the panel responds when that Tag enters a fault state.

The three shutdown types are ESD, Standard, and None.

ESD: Emergency Shutdown

An ESD shutdown immediately stops the engine and shuts down the compressor while bypassing the normal shutdown sequence.

The Emergency Shutdown pushbutton on the side of the panel is an example of an ESD input. Because the normal shutdown sequence is bypassed, normal cooldown and post lube cycles are not performed after an ESD shutdown.

Standard Shutdown

A Standard shutdown performs an orderly shutdown using the configured normal shutdown sequence. This allows the system to complete the normal actions associated with stopping the compressor rather than immediately bypassing the sequence.

None

A Shutdown Type of None means the monitored condition does not shut down the compressor. The condition can still be monitored and can generate alarms or notifications without causing a shutdown fault.

Low Battery Voltage is an example of a condition that may need attention and notification but may not be intended to stop the compressor.

Shutdown Type vs. Input Class

Shutdown Type and Input Class describe different parts of the safety behavior:

  • Input Class determines when the Safety Shutdown Tag becomes armed.
  • Shutdown Type determines what the panel does when an armed Tag enters a fault state.

For example, a Tag may use Class B timing to determine when it becomes armed and then use Standard shutdown behavior if it later faults.

Before Changing a Shutdown Type

Shutdown Type directly affects how the compressor responds to a fault. Contact Enbase Support if you are unsure whether the Shutdown Type for a Safety Shutdown Tag should be changed.
