Understanding Enbase Compressor Startup Modes

Learn how Local Start, Remote Start, Auto Start, and Standby Start work in the Enbase Compressor Control Panel and when each startup mode may be used.

The Enbase Compressor Control Panel supports multiple startup operating modes. The mode used on a specific compressor depends on the panel configuration and the operating requirements of the site.

Local Start

Local Start is the standard startup method. A local user initiates the startup sequence from the local HMI or Hub Control Panel while connected locally.

Remote Start

Remote Start allows a remotely located external system to control starting and stopping. The system can be configured so that remote startup is only allowed when the required mode, reset state, permissive signals, and shutdown conditions allow it.

Only shutdown conditions configured as remotely startable can be restarted remotely. Other shutdowns require the appropriate local reset or manual action before the compressor can be started again.

Auto Start

Auto Start allows the system to automatically restart after a previous shutdown when the condition that caused the shutdown has cleared.

Automatic restart only applies to shutdown codes that have been configured as Auto Startable and when the required Auto Start permissive conditions are satisfied.

Standby Start

Standby Start allows the system to automatically start and stop based on suction pressure permissives.

When the system is in the applicable automatic standby mode, it can start after suction pressure rises above the configured Standby Start Permissive. While running, it can trigger a Standby Shutdown after suction pressure falls below the configured Standby Shutdown Permissive.

This operating mode can be used for applications such as Vapor Recovery Units (VRUs).

Important Safety Consideration

Remote Start, Auto Start, and Standby Start can result in equipment starting without an action by a local user. The Enbase Compressor Control Panel documentation strongly recommends visual and audible startup alarms on the compressor skid to warn personnel that a startup has been triggered.

Do not change startup mode, permissive, or automatic restart configuration unless you understand how the change will affect site operation and personnel safety. Contact Enbase Support if assistance is needed.
