Understanding Runtime and Mechanical Availability in OneView

Learn the difference between Runtime, Total Downtime, Mechanical Downtime, and Mechanical Availability in OneView.

OneView uses several availability and downtime metrics to help you understand how often a compressor is running and how much downtime is specifically related to mechanical causes.

Runtime

Runtime represents the percentage of the selected period that an asset was running. On the Asset Overview Performance Summary, Runtime is shown for the last 30 days.

Total Downtime

Total Downtime includes all recorded reasons a unit was down, including mechanical, operational, and unknown causes.

Mechanical Downtime

Mechanical Downtime is the portion of Total Downtime that has been attributed specifically to a mechanical cause.

Mechanical Availability

Mechanical Availability represents the percentage of the period without a mechanically caused outage. On Asset Overview, the Performance Summary shows this for the last 30 days.

Why the Difference Matters

A compressor can have significant total downtime without the same amount of mechanical downtime. Separating the two helps distinguish maintenance related outages from other operational or unknown causes.

Keep Time Ranges Consistent

If two OneView pages appear to show different downtime totals, first confirm that both pages are using the same time range.
