Understanding the Enbase Heartbeat Function
Learn how the Basic Enbase Heartbeat Function creates a continuously changing watchdog signal using a timed increment and wraparound range.
Heartbeat is a Basic Enbase Function that creates a constantly changing output value for use as a heartbeat or watchdog signal.
How the Heartbeat Changes
The output changes at a configured Timestep. At each step, the Function increases the value by a positive Increment.
Start and End Values
The Heartbeat begins at the configured Start Value. When it reaches the End Value, it wraps back to the Start Value and continues.
Enable Input
When Enable is nonzero, the Function continues incrementing the output. When Enable is zero, the Function pauses the increment and returns the current value.
Why a Heartbeat Signal Is Useful
A changing heartbeat or watchdog value can provide another system or piece of logic with an indication that the Enbase Function is continuing to execute and update.
When to Contact Enbase Support
Contact Enbase Support if a Heartbeat value is not changing as expected or if you need help integrating the Heartbeat with another device or monitoring workflow.
