What Are Universal Descriptors in OneView?
Learn what Universal Descriptors are in OneView and how standardized measurement types are used when creating Tag Groups.
A Universal Descriptor is a standardized parameter or measurement type used in OneView. Universal Descriptors provide a consistent way to refer to measurements when creating reusable Tag Groups.
Why Standardized Measurements Matter
Different compressors and telemetry sources may report similar measurements in different ways. A standardized descriptor gives OneView a common measurement concept that can be reused in features such as Tag Groups.
Universal Descriptor vs. Tag Group
Universal Descriptor: One standardized measurement type, such as a specific pressure or temperature parameter.
Tag Group: A named collection of one or more Universal Descriptors.
Where Are Universal Descriptors Used?
When creating or editing a Tag Group, you select the Universal Descriptors you want included in that group.
Example
If you want a reusable group for production related measurements, you can select the relevant Universal Descriptors and save them together as a Tag Group. The group can then be referenced elsewhere in OneView where Tag Groups are used.
