What Does a Scan Error Mean in Enbase?
Learn what an Enbase Scan Error means, where to find Scan Status information, and what information to review when troubleshooting.
A Scan Error means the Enbase Hub encountered a problem while attempting to retrieve a value for a Tag from its configured data source.
A Scan Error does not necessarily identify the root cause of the problem. Instead, it tells you that Enbase was unable to successfully retrieve the expected Tag value.
Where Can I See Scan Errors? You can review Scan Error information in the Grid View of the Hub Control Panel. Each Tag includes several fields that can help with troubleshooting.
Scan Status
Scan Status displays OK when Enbase is successfully retrieving the Tag value. If there is a problem retrieving the value, the Scan Status field displays an error message.
Num Scans
Shows the total number of successful requests made to the Tag's data source.
Num Scan Errors
Shows the total number of unsuccessful requests made to the Tag's data source.
Num Cons Scan Errors
Shows the number of consecutive unsuccessful requests. This can help determine whether the problem occurred temporarily or is continuing.
How to Investigate a Scan Error1. Open the Hub Control Panel.
2. Navigate to the Monitoring area.
3. Open Grid View.
4. Find the Tag reporting the Scan Error.
5. Review the Scan Status message.
6. Review Num Scan Errors and Num Cons Scan Errors.
7. If additional troubleshooting is needed, review System Status for information about the Hub's Tasks and subsystems.
8. Review Event History > System Events for related warnings or errors.
Why Can a Scan Error Occur?
Each Tag can have a configured Scan Interval that determines how frequently the Hub attempts to retrieve its value. If the Tag's data source does not provide a value within the configured Scan Interval, the Hub records a Scan Error.
The exact cause depends on the Tag's data source and configuration.
