What Is a Tag in Enbase?
Learn what Tags are in Enbase, what information they represent, and how they are used for monitoring, alarming, trending, and troubleshooting.
Tags are one of the core building blocks of the Enbase. A Tag represents a piece of information that Enbase monitors, calculates, or receives from another device.
For example, a Tag might represent:
- Suction pressure
- Discharge pressure
- Engine speed
- Temperature
- Run status
- A digital switch
- Data received from another controller
Each Tag has a current value that represents the latest information available to in the Enbase Dashboard or Enbase Hub.
Where Does Tag Data Come From?
A Tag can receive its value from several different sources, including:
- Enbase I/O modules connected to sensors
- Modbus devices
- J1939 devices
- Internal Enbase system information
- User supplied values
- Calculated values
The source depends on how the Enbase and connected equipment are configured.
What Can Enbase Do With a Tag?
Tags allow Enbase to do more than simply display a value. Depending on the configuration, a Tag can be used to:
- Display the current value of a sensor or device
- Record historical data for trending
- Generate alarms when a value exceeds a configured limit
- Track status changes
- Support calculations and other Enbase functions
- Assist with equipment and communication troubleshooting
Where Can I View Tags?
Tags can be viewed in the Enbase Dashboard or the Monitoring page of the Hub Control Panel.
The Enbase Dashboard View provides a visual representation of Tag values and may include gauges, alarm limits, and trend information.
The Grid View provides additional details about each Tag, including its current value, unit of measure, Scan Status, alarms, and communication statistics.
Why Are Tags Important?
Most of the information you see in Enbase ultimately comes from Tags. When troubleshooting an asset, identifying the Tag associated with the issue is often one of the first steps because it can help determine what value Enbase is receiving and whether the Hub is successfully communicating with the Tag's data source.
Note: Need help? If a Tag is showing an unexpected value or a Scan Error and you are not sure what to check next, contact Enbase Support with the asset name and Tag name.
