What Is PID Control in Enbase?

Learn what the Advanced PID Controller Function does in Enbase and how it uses process value, setpoint, tuning, limits, and control mode.

The Enbase PID Controller is an Advanced Function that calculates a Controlled Variable output using a PID control loop. It can be used when Enbase needs to adjust an output to move a measured Process Variable toward a target Setpoint.

Core PID Inputs

  • Process Variable Tag, or PV
  • Setpoint, or SP, which is the target value for the Process Variable
  • Kp, Ki, and Kd tuning coefficients
  • Deadband and update time
  • Forward or Reverse control direction
  • Manual or Auto mode and Manual Output Value

Output Limits and Permissives

The PID Function can use low and high limits for the Controlled Variable and a Permissive input that determines when the PID is allowed to execute. It also supports an optional Bumpless Transfer setting when moving from Manual to Auto mode.

PID Control in the Compressor Controller

The Enbase Compressor Control Panel can use Analog Output Tags with the PID Controller Function for general PID control. Compressor applications can also use PID based steady state control for driver speed and other control strategies.

Configuration Assistance

PID tuning and output configuration can directly affect physical equipment. Contact Enbase Support for assistance before creating or changing PID control used on operating equipment.
