What Types of Sensors and Inputs Does Enbase Support?

Learn about the common sensor, input, output, and device data types that can be used with the Enbase Hub and Expansion I/O Modules.

The Enbase Hub can collect information from a variety of sensors, field devices, and external controllers. The exact options available depend on the Hub model, connected Expansion I/O Modules, and the configuration of the installation.

In Enbase, information received from a sensor or device is typically represented by a Tag so it can be monitored, trended, alarmed, and used by other Enbase functions.

Hard Wired Input Types

Enbase supports several common industrial input types through compatible Expansion I/O Modules, including:

  • 4 to 20 mA analog current inputs
  • 0 to 20 mA analog current inputs
  • 0 to 5 V analog voltage inputs
  • 1 to 5 V analog voltage inputs
  • Digital or discrete inputs
  • Ungrounded Type K thermocouple inputs
  • Frequency inputs, including signals used for Magnetic Pickup RPM monitoring

Output Types

Depending on the Expansion I/O Module and application, Enbase can also support:

  • Digital outputs
  • Analog outputs

Outputs are used in applications where Enbase needs to send a signal or command to another device. Output configuration and control should only be changed by authorized personnel who understand the equipment and application.

Digital Switch Inputs

Compatible Enbase Expansion I/O Modules can support both Normally Open or Short to Ground single wire switches and Normally Closed two wire switches. The input channel must be configured for the type of signal being used.

Data From External Controllers

Not all Enbase data has to come from a hard wired sensor. The Hub can also receive information from external devices through supported communication methods such as Modbus and J1939.

For example, engine speed or equipment status may be read directly from an external controller instead of from a dedicated sensor, depending on the installation.

How Do I Know What My Installation Supports?

The available inputs, outputs, and communication options vary by Hub model and Expansion Module configuration. Refer to the drawings and documentation provided for your installation to identify the available channels and signal types.

If you are planning to add a new sensor or device, contact Enbase Support to confirm compatibility and configuration requirements before making wiring or hardware changes.
