Why Is Enbase Reporting Incorrect RPM?

Troubleshoot incorrect RPM readings in Enbase by checking the MPU connection, flywheel tooth count, and Engine Speed Tag scaling.

When an Enbase Compressor Control Panel uses a Magnetic Pickup, or MPU, to determine engine speed, the panel calculates RPM from the pulse signal and the number of teeth on the engine flywheel.

Check the MPU Connection

Make sure the MPU leads are securely connected to the corresponding terminals on the Enbase Expansion I/O Module.

Confirm the Flywheel Tooth Count

Enbase calculates Engine Speed using the number of teeth on the flywheel. An incorrect tooth count or scaling value can cause the RPM shown in Enbase to be inaccurate.

Confirm the Engine Speed Tag Scaling

The Compressor Control Panel guide specifies the following scaling formula for the Engine Speed Tag:

60 / [Number of Teeth]

Confirm that the Engine Speed Tag is using the correct value for the installed engine and flywheel. If you are not authorized to change Tag configuration, contact Enbase Support before making changes.

If RPM Comes From an Engine Controller

Some installations can obtain RPM from an engine controller through Modbus or CAN instead of an MPU. If your installation uses that method, contact Enbase Support to verify the configured RPM data source and communication path.

When to Contact Enbase Support

Contact Enbase Support if the MPU wiring is secure and the flywheel tooth count appears correct but the reported RPM is still inaccurate. Provide the asset name, the RPM shown in Enbase, the expected RPM, and the known flywheel tooth count if available.
